Track Bicycles, Fixed Gears, and Fixies

A few months ago I had a building need for a fixed gear bike. It progressed when the movie Premium Rush came out, by then I was dreaming about them, and it was driving me mad! I already had a bike that I had planned to turn into a fixie, which I dismantled. I also custom built a 27 inch fixed wheel, because I knew 27 inch tires are super cheap (and when I learned how to skid brake, I took advantage of the cheapness).
Fixed gear bikes are the purest of all bicycles out on the market today. Fixies were the first bikes to be built, and were used by everyone, that is until the automobile came around. Most bicycles today use a freewheel which allows you to coast or cease leg movement without a wreck. Fix gears on the other hand, do not have a freewheel, if you were to stop your legs, the bike would stop. But for a fixed gear it takes a little more effort stopping your legs.
Here is a bit of food for your thinker: when running, do you ever cease leg movement to relax your legs? If you were running at a high speed and just stopped, you'd trip and fall. Now explain to me why you would ride a bike any differently. Therefore a fixed gear bike is the bike to have!

The (Unplanned) Trip to Holly, Washington

A little introduction to what I was doing: I had previously planned to bike to my uncle's house in Bremerton, and leave a note saying "Lucas was here", but I kinda got lost... Here is my story...

My Mega Modernization Project of a Vintage Schwinn Varstiy!

In the month of August, 2011, I was given a Schwinn Varsity frame, fork, and various other parts. I was planning the build project to be a restoration, but I was sorely wrong. Finding the correct parts, i.e., 27 inch wheelset, 1 piece crankset, was to complicated, I then decided I was going to modernize the all-American steel frame!

Bicycles are Rad

When designing a bike, I start out with the generic frame, then sculpt the lines to make some pretty radical bikes. When designing a bike, I keep in mind the structure; bikes are made of triangles... Well, the simple ones are...

"What don't kill ya, 'll make you most strong..."

This is a line from Metallica's "Broken, Beat, & Scarred." Today I crashed "Bob", my new/old bike (I'll post pics later), well I wouldn't say crashed, more of a slide...
Ok this is what happened, I was biking through this outdoor shopping mall with intricate parking lot mazes. Anyway I pulled around a grassy island, because every parking lot has grassy islands, and the rear skidded and I slid about three feet... So got up, looked around, climbed back on and continued on, only problem was somehow my bar came out of line... Easy fix!!!
Well I got to Big-5 and suddenly the lyric "What don't kill ya, 'll make you most strong" came in my head, and I finally understood the meaning! If we don't die (a little harsh, but hey!), we can learn, adapt, and fix our problems so they don't happen again.

Lesson learned:
Never take sharp turns on wet roadway, only wide turns. Also, slow down before you make a turn, especially a blind one, you never know who's coming!

Long Reach Brake Calipers.... December?

Ok my custom bike is a 78' Schwinn Varsity and I wanted to put 700c rims on them well to turn a 27" frame to a 700c meant I needed Long Reach Brake Calipers... but they're out of stock!!!! So I stopped by the Silverdale Cyclery and they had 27" aluminium rims, THERE IS A GOD!!!! So all I need is new brake calipers and pads.
